History
The Sully Telephone Association was organized in 1903 and incorporated on May 4, 1904. The first office was located on the second floor of the Taylor Brick building. Later, the office was moved to the second floor of the building which for years was occupied by the barber shop. New office headquarters with residential space for the linemen was built on the east side of the square in 1930. Our current location was built in 1985.
Our earliest records are from 1912, when there were fourteen rural lines with each having a director to represent them on the Board of Directors. One of the first lineman traveled by bicycle to repair lines. In September 1956, the first dial system was put into operation with as many as ten subscribers on a party line. By 1977 the company had completed burying lines to all their subscribers and the entire exchange was cut over to 1-party service. Many changes occurred in the years that followed, notably in 1985 when Judge Greene ruled for deregulation of the long distance business and the breakup of the Bell System.
Today, Sully Telephone Association continues to strive for a high level of excellence to all its customers in the area it serves.
